Season 9 was an emotional roller coaster while season 10 with Niecy was the season I laughed the most. Besides the fact that Niecy is hard-working, committed, and opinionated, I have never laughed as hard as any other season. She is so funny, and I don’t know where she gets it from so quickly. What I appreciate so much about Niecy’s comedy is she never swears or jokes at anyone else’s expense. Always self-deprecating.
Niecy told me early on the reason why she wanted to do the show. When she was young, she did ballet and loved every minute of it. However, her teacher told her she was fat and would never have a dance career. Doing DWTS was a ‘dream deferred’ to use Niecy’s words. You can imagine what I think of that ballet teacher!
Well, Niecy proved her ballet teacher wrong. In her 40ies she blossomed as a dancer week after week. While we were doing DWTS Niecy also worked two other jobs with ET and Clean House on A&E. In week 8 we were rehearsing in Chicago in between Niecy shouting an episode for Clean House. I asked her if she could drop the other two jobs for a few weeks until after DWTS was finished to have more time to focus on our dancing. Her response was: ‘Honey, are you going to pay my mortgage and take care of my three children?’ Touche…Even though we didn’t make it to the top 4, I respect the hard-working woman Niecy is taking care of her kids and her own life.
